“To lead the transformation of Maharashtra’s livestock sector into a model of excellence, characterized by sustainable, technology-driven, and ethical practices, ensuring the well-being of animals, enhancing farmer’s prosperity, and fortifying food security.”

Mission

  • To make and implement Bovine Breeding Policy for the state. The program seeks to ensure the implementation of artificial insemination and the improvement of livestock in accordance with established standards within the state of Maharashtra. It aims to target every district in the state, along with the supply of artificial insemination services and strict control measures to maintain the highest quality and compliance with mandated standards. This includes diligent monitoring and oversight.
  • The board envisions a future where advanced technologies, including artificial insemination and genetic improvements through advanced breeding activities , will be  widely adopted to enhance livestock productivity and improve the overall quality of livestock. Regional Livestock Breeding Programs will be initiated within the state to ascertain the pedigree and quality of cattle. This will help establish a definitive and dependable breeding program.
  • A core focus of the board’s vision is to empower livestock farmers, offering them access to modern techniques, training, and financial support to enhance their livelihoods.
  • The program will  also encompass the Cattle Rearing groups, working in collaboration with the Government, Agriculture, Rural Development. This collaboration will ensure effective coordination towards the successful execution of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission .
  • Active partnerships with the  MAFSU, NDDB, NBAGR, NDRI, IVRI, Dairy Industry , Voluntary organizations, cooperative milk unions, and international institution, Breeders  associations will be forged. 

Objective

  • Production and procurement of high genetic merit bulls at MLDB farms.
  • Establishment and strenthening of bovine breeding farms under MLDB.
  • Production of quality frozen semen doses of HGM bulls and other indigenous breed.
  • To increase milk production and promote rural self employment generation by expanding scope of productivity enhancement,cross breeding and buffalo breeding program.
  • To preserve and promote indigenous animal like Deoni,Dangi,Khillar, Gaolao,Lal Kandhar,Dangi cattles and Pandharpuri,Kathni,Kokan Kapila,Marathwadi and Nagpuri buffaloes.
  • Implementation of Central Sponsored schemes-Rashtriya Gokul Mission,National Livestock Mission.
  • Implementation of State Government Sponsored schemes-Genetic Improvement Scheme,Conservation of native breeds.
