Implementation of IVF Technology

The Maharashtra Livestock Development Board (MLDB), Nagpur, has taken a pioneering step in implementing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technologies to improve the genetic quality of livestock in the state.

Objectives:

  • Genetic Improvement: Enhance the genetic quality of livestock through IVF technologies.
  • Increased Productivity: Improve the productivity of livestock in terms of milk, meat, and egg production.
  • Better Livelihoods: Enhance the livelihoods of livestock farmers through improved productivity and increased income.
IVF Technologies Implemented:
  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): MLDB has established an IVF laboratory to produce high-quality embryos.
  • Embryo Transfer (ET): Trained technicians perform embryo transfer procedures to ensure successful pregnancies.
  • Sex-Sorted Semen: MLDB uses sex-sorted semen to ensure 90% female calves, leading to increased milk production.
